The Elegant Mohatta Palace

Mohatta Palace after renovated by Government of Sindh

Built by Shivratan Chandraratan Mohatta as his summer home in 1927, The Mohatta Palace is an exclusive beauty from Karachi, Pakistan. Unfortunately, Mohatta could only enjoy his palace for two decades before Independence of Pakistan and he left Karachi for India.
The design of the palace is based on Mughal architecture and the architect of the palace was Agha Ahmed Hussain.

Mohatta palace was a luxurious home built in the late 1920s, consisting of 18,500 sq.yards. The elegant palace have three levels, basement, ground floor, first floor till you reach the roof. The basement lies on the north side of the building is quite small compared to rest of the floors. There are nine domes with a center dome in the middle. The front windows opens into the garden are of blue colour while windows in rear area are arched windows with stained glass. The palace is solely made up of teak wood with a polished staircase, long corridors and doors opening within doors.

I visited the place when I participated in a MUN being held there. The Government of Pakistan used the building to house finance ministry when Karachi was its capital. Later the building was home to Fatimah Jinnah and her sister Shireen Jinnah. After Shireen's death the palace was sealed and was finally turned into a museum when Government of Sindh Bought the palace in 1997. Now the palace is used for exibition purposes and other events such as MUN can be arranged there for a fees. The palace is open to everyone from Pakistan and rest of the World. The palace is a must visit place if you are a resident of Karachi or planning to travel to the city.
